US-based Solar Atmospheres reported that its 48 ft vacuum furnace, which it claims is the world’s largest of its type, has successfully vacuum heat treated nickel alloy components in its inaugural cycle.

The furnace can to apply tight pyrometric controls to ± 10° F and has a US patented load car design prevented distortion of the more than 40 ft long tubes. Due to the furnace’s increased efficiency, the total cycle time for this thermal process will be reduced by two days compared to traditional furnace designs, the company said.
