The Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials says that it has commissioned a new facility for additive manufacturing (AM).
The new production line, which the Institute calls the ‘Fusion Factory’, has been developed by machine builder Xerion Berlin Laboratories and can reportedly 3D print both metallic and ceramic components.
According to Fraunhofer, the line features three modules that combine the process steps of printing, debinding and densification. With additional printing modules, the system can be expanded for industrial series production, it says. One technology available will be metallic fused filament fabrication (FFF), with the metal powder from the filament found 100% in the finished component.
The Institute says that it plans to run an industrial workshop entitled ‘Additive metallic filament printing for practical use’ on 21 January 2021. To register, go here.
