The Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT) reports that British engine manufacturing rose again in May up 5.1% to 242,391 units.
There was a 18.7% growth in production for export offsets and a 12.4% decline in domestic demand.
“It’s great to see yet another month of growth for Britain’s engine factories, which, thanks to previous investment into new facilities and product, continue to fulfil global demand for their high-tech low emission engines,’ said Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive. ‘With almost two thirds of output destined for car plants across the world, the majority in Europe, it is vital government acts to safeguard the free and frictionless trade that has driven the sector’s success.’
