UK engine production stable

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) says that UK engine manufacturing was stable in July 2019, up 0.6% from July 2018 with 196,142 units produced.

UK demand however was down 4.0% as UK car production fell, while export orders rose 4.0%. Almost two thirds of all output was shipped overseas this year, the association said.

‘Today’s figures reflect the downward trend in UK car production and underline the importance of overseas business,’ said Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive. ‘Securing a Brexit deal that maintains frictionless trade with our key export markets, therefore, remains an absolute priority for the future competitiveness of this vital sector.’
