Cutting tools company acquires cold press

Gasbarre says that it has made a dry-bag cold isostatic press for a leading German manufacturer of end mills, drills, tool holders and wear resistant components for the metalworking industry.

The press can reportedly form components of up to 450 mm in length and uses 3000 bar (43,500 psi) pressure to press tungsten carbide powder into rod, sleeve, and bar preforms. It uses a forming system that converts hydraulic primary pressure to high pressure forming fluid with a one-shot pressure intensifier for pressure curve control and improved cycle rate. It also features an HMI/PLC/motion control package for parameter access, control and monitoring of machine aspects.
