Tiangong International, a Chinese producer of tool and die steel, has acquired a hot isostatic press (HIP) as part of the expansion of its powder metallurgy (PM) manufacturing program.

The QIH 232 M URC press will be installed in a facility in Danyang City, Jiangsu.

According to HIP manufacturer Quintus, this follows Tiangong International’s need to meet increasing demand for PM production. Tiangong makes high-speed steel with high ductility and wear resistance for the tool and die industry.

The new press is equipped with uniform rapid cooling (URC) technology, fan assisted temperature uniformity and distribution combined with controlled heating and cooling, the company said. It has a work zone of 1,190 mm (46.8 inches) in diameter and 2,600 mm (102.4 inches) in height. It operates at a maximum temperature of 1,400°C (2,552°F) and a maximum pressure of 2,070 bar (30,000 psi).
