Sandvik Coromant says that it has introduced connectivity capability to its series of Silent Tools tool holders.

Silent Tools Plus enables data from the machining process to be collected and sent to a dashboard, the company said. For instance, it will be possible to detect if there is too much vibration or if the surface quality is at risk of being compromised, and operators will be able to reduce the time that the machine runs without the tool in cut. A vibration indicator can detect issues with machining at an early stage, helping to prevent vibration-associated issues such as noise, poor surface quality and accelerated tool wear, while center height setting functionality displays the level of the cutting edge.

The Silent Tools Plus turning adaptor also includes a new Wedge Lock quick-change interface between the adaptor and cutting head, Sandvik Coromant adds.
