Pyrometer suitable for aluminium forming

AMETEK, which makes non-contact temperature monitors, has added two new modes for forging and forming applications to its SPOT AL EQS aluminum applications pyrometer.

According to the company, its new F and F Mg (magnesium) algorithms are suitable for reheating and secondary processing applications with thicker alloy-dependent oxide layers.

The modes can billet temperature measurements at the entry to the extrusion press or during other aluminum pre-heating processes.

‘[This] significantly enhances the pyrometer’s scope and opens up new measurement opportunities,’ said Dr Fiona Turner, physics section manager at AMETEK.
