Death of Per Ulf Gummeson

The MPIF has reported that PM pioneer Per Ulf Gummeson sadly died earlier this year at the age of 99.

Gummeson was born and educated in Sweden and joined Höganäs AB as assistant to the chief metallurgist. In 1952 he went to work for Höganäs’ new US subsidiary, Hoeganaes Sponge Iron Corporation, where he oversaw the construction of the new plant in Riverton, New Jersey, and became President in1958.

He served in many capacities within the MPIF including president of the Metal Powder Producers Association (1965–1968) and president of MPIF (1987–1991). He received the Distinguished Service to Powder Metallurgy Award in 1979. In 1996, in recognition of his leadership and significant contributions to the powder metallurgical industry.
