ASTM awards US$10k scholarships

ASTM has announced US$10,000 scholarships to four graduate students studying fields where technical standards play an important role.

 The candidates include Patricio Carrion, a doctoral candidate at Auburn University in the US studying mechanical engineering. He is a contributor to the additive manufacturing committee (F42) and has been active in conducting research related to committee work items, the ASTM said.

Alex Thomas, a student member working towards his master’s degree at the University of Wisconsin has also received a scholarship. Thomas is a participating member of the committees on steel, stainless steel, and related alloys (A01) and waste management (D34) and is the current subchair of the D34 subcommittee on treatment, recovery and reuse.

Other students include Laura Luna, working towards her master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering at Dalhousie University and Omid Vakili, a student member of the sports equipment, playing surfaces, and facilities committee (F08).
