AM center in Bristol

Additive Industries has officially opened its new process and application development center in Bristol, UK.

According to the company, the new facility covers the whole additive manufacturing (AM) process, including design, process development, materials development and post processing. Other centers are located in the Netherlands, USA and Singapore.

Companies in the area include Airbus, Rolls-Royce, and GKN.

"In the aerospace and defence industry, metal additive manufacturing is key enabler and is now competing with traditional manufacturing processes for example, high value assemblies of machined and cast components," said Ian Howe, CEO of Additive Industries. "In particular, in rocket and aviation engine development 3D printing is now being used to manufacture certified, high tolerance parts in these demanding applications while reducing costs."
