Höganäs introduces stainless steel powder for 3D printing

Höganäs has developed 17-4 PH stainless steel powder for use with its Digital Metal printing technology.

According to the company, 17-4 PH can produce components with high strength and hardness.

The material is a hardening grade which reportedly exhibits considerably higher strength compared to the more commonly used austenitic 316L. It also provides improved corrosion resistance, when compared to 400 series ferritic stainless steels. Digital Metal 3D metal printing technology enables the production of small and complex objects in a more cost effective way than traditional methods, Höganäs says.
