Drills for precision machining

Sandvik Coromant has launched two new microdrills for precision machining.

The CoroDrill 462 and the CoroDril 862 are suitable for industries requiring small parts manufacturing, such as medical, automotive, electronics and aerospace, the company said. They are available in a range of geometries with a variety of cutting diameters and lengths. Both drills can make hole depths of up to nine times diameter (xD) when using external coolant, and a through-coolant option is also available for drilling diameters of 1.00mm and above and hole depths of up to 16xD.

Sandik says that the CoroDrill 462 can make hols up to 3.00mm with a drill depth of 6xD, while the CoroDrill 862 can make holes from 1.00mm to 3.00mm in diameter in all materials, when used with internal coolant. In addition to conventional drilling, it also supports a variety of other drilling activities, including cross holes, stack drilling and drilling convex and concave surfaces.

It is possible to configure the tools based on diameters, usable length, step-diameter length and shank diameter. The CoroDrill 862 is also available with a polycrystalline diamond (PCD) vein cutting edge.

The CoroDrill 462 and 862 replace Sandvik Coromant’s existing R840 and current 862 micro drill assortments.
