UK engine production goes past £2 million

UK engine manufacturing rises 8.9% in October, with 239,086 units produced, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT). Domestic vehicle makers drive growth, with demand up 29.1% in the month. The overall year-to-date output has reached 2.1 million – a 6.4% uplift on the first 10 months in 2015.

'Domestic demand drove growth in UK engine output for the 10thconsecutive month in October, as multi-billion pound investments in plants to serve Britain’s resurgent vehicle manufacturing sector continue to be realised,’ said Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive. ‘However, with more than half of all engines built here still exported, it is vital that the competitive conditions that have driven this sector's success – and that of the vehicle manufacturing sector on which it relies – are secured for the future.’
