UK engine production down 12.7%

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reports that UK engine production declined 12.7% in first six months of 2022, totalling 812,397 units, compared to 2021.

Year to date output for export fell 9.7%, while production for the UK was down 16.4%, the trade organization said.

“The global shortage of semiconductors continues to wreak havoc on the production of vehicles and, in turn, engines, with manufacturers operating in a highly challenging economic environment,” said Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive.
