Sciaky Inc to showcase AM technology at manufacturing show

Sciaky's Direct Manufacturing technology is the only large-scale, fully programmable means of achieving near-net shape parts made from titanium, stainless steel, nickel and refractory alloys, the company claims. The process combines computer-aided design (CAD), Sciaky's electron beam welding technology, and layer-additive processing. Starting with a 3D model from a CAD program, Sciaky's electron beam gun deposits metal, layer by layer, until the part is complete and ready for finish machining. Depending on the part being manufactured, deposition rates can range from 15 to 40 pounds of metal per hour.

"Manufacturers can save significant time and money over traditional manufacturing methods with Sciaky's Direct Manufacturing technology," Mike Riesen, general manager of Sciaky, claims. "We can make functional prototypes and production parts up to 20 feet in length and eight feet high, using a wide variety of high-density metals."

TCT Live 2012 takes place 25-26 September in Birmingham, UK.
