The EBAM system will help the manufacturer 3D print large, high-value metal parts.

This is the first of two multi-million dollar orders from a major global manufacturing company since the beginning of July when the company announced the availability of the systems. Sciaky is also working with more than 12 other companies and entities within the aerospace, defence and manufacturing sectors.

EBAM technology combines computer-aided design (CAD), electron beam welding technology and layer-additive processing. Starting with a 3D model from a CAD program, Sciaky's moving electron beam welding gun deposits metal, layer by layer, until the part reaches near-net shape. From there, the near-net shape part requires minor post-production machining. The 110 inch x 110 inch x 110 inch build envelope of the EBAM system allows the manufacturer to produce large parts, with virtually no waste.
