Hardmetal specialist Sandvik Coromant’s site in Gimo, Sweden will take part in a new district heating project to replace oil with biofuels. The investment could help reduce carbon dioxide emissions corresponding to heating of 230 villas and reduce costs.
Sandvik Coromant has signed an agreement with the energy company Neova to build a biofuel boiler and fuel delivery system at Neovo's district heating plant in the town. Surplus heating can also be moved between two geographically different industrial area
‘We have reduced the usage of fuel oil by about 70% since 2012,’ said Joakim Fagerudd, site manager for Sandvik Coromant in Gimo. ‘The focus on alternative district heating will bring that down to almost zero. Based on one year's consumption, we estimate that the new district heating solution will correspond to reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 1,850 tons per year.’
The reduced oil consumption is estimated at 700 m3 of oil per year.
