REM Surface Engineering, a specialty finishing operation serving the automotive and high-tech aerospace industries, among others, recently hosted a Lean Leadership Certification Tour at hits facility in Southington, Conn. REM was selected to serve as an example to new lean leaders in training. REM began the afternoon with a brief presentation on the company's "lean journey" across all three of its locations. Afterwards, attendees were taken on a tour of the facility, which included stops in the manufacturing, services, shipping and receiving, accounting and office areas. REM employees shared their experiences with participants and answered questions during the tour.

"The information shared on how REM Surface Engineering is developing a lean culture throughout the company, at all facilities worldwide, and the opportunity to witness the Southington plant results on the tour was inspiring and timely," said states Fred Shamburg, Leanovations president. "The REM Team delivered a very big "WOW" for all the participants of the Lean Leadership Certification Tour. They gathered many 'golden nuggets' from the visit." Founded in 1965, REM Chemicals--as it was known then--specialized in precision cleaning and plating for decorative applications.
