Materials processing company Oerlikon has opened a new US$55 million additive manufacturing (AM) facility in Huntersville, NC, USA.
The 125 000 ft facility currently employs about 60 people and is fully functional, the company said. It is Oerlikon’s second location in North Carolina and follows the company’s announcement of plans to invest US$400 million to grow business in the US. ‘This facility marks an important step in our investment strategy for growth,’ said Professor Dr Michael Süss, chair, Oerlikon Group. ‘Additive manufacturing will play a decisive role in how industries and industrial processes will look in the future. We are committed to investing in this business and leading the industrialization of this technology.’ ‘We are already working with customers in the aerospace, automotive, energy and medical industries in the US, and we anticipate continued growth in those sectors, as well as in others,’ added Dr Sven Hicken, head of the company’s AM business.
