Nikon establishes new AM company

Nikon Corporation has reported plans to form a new company focused on 3D printing.

Nikon Advanced Manufacturing will be based in California, USA and make use of technology acquired through its purchases of additive manufacturing (AM) companies SLM Solutions Group AG and Morf3D Inc, the company said.

This is reportedly the first time that the global headquarters of a Nikon business unit will be outside of Japan. “The California location provides excellent proximity to customers and partners including the aerospace, space and defense industries,” a press release said. “Nikon envisions providing options for holistic, industrialized and fully scalable solutions, including enabling global turn-key factory opportunities for customers at locations of their choosing.”
