GKN develops post Covid-19 manufacturing

GKN Powder Metallurgy says that it is preparing for post-Covid-19 operation conditions and business environment.

The company is working with UK manual operations company Workerbase to develop a new system where a traditional role and hierarchy-based organizational type is replaced by a setup that is skill and competency based. According to GKN, this leads to self-learning working environment by using technology such as mobile devices on the production floor.

According to GKN, a National Association of Manufacturers survey revealed that 35% of manufacturing companies are facing supply chain disruptions.

‘The new normal of manufacturing requires a new way of working,’ said Paul Mairl, chief digital officer, GKN Powder Metallurgy. ‘Our partnership with Workerbase is an important step on our journey to create a new vision of manufacturing operations: combining a data-driven culture with the best technology and technical solutions.’
