The European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA) and KIC-EIT Raw Material, a European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT) Knowledge and Innovation Community, are collaborating on a new training course to help support and develop the powder metallurgy sector, entitled PM Life.
The PM Life training program covers five key areas of powder metallurgy: additive manufacturing, hot isostatic pressing, metal injection moulding, powder and hard materials and press and sinter. The five-week long courses, delivered across Europe from Sweden to Spain and from Coventry to Dresden, have been developed to show participants about the varied career opportunities the powder metallurgy (PM) sector can provide.
According to the EPMA, each week of study covers specific industry sectors in lecture style presentations, group exercises, with an examination at the end of the training week. The organization has also put in place a number of three-week long PM Life internship taking place between July and December 2018 in either a factory or university location. These are intended to help develop participants’ understanding of working environments and provide them with some practical experience.
‘This is a great opportunity for degree students who have recently graduated, or for people who are considering a career change also for new employee, to learn more about the powder metal process and the different facets the PM industry can offer,’ said Dr Lionel Aboussouan, EPMA’s executive director. ‘The entire PM Life lifelong learning in powder metallurgy training courses run for five weeks, covering five PM industry areas, allowing students to experience all areas of the industry, in the hope that in the future they consider becoming part of the PM industry, through joining one of the many companies within the sector.’
The five weeks of training can be purchased all at once, to be taken within 2018, or on a week-by-week basis by selecting the course that is most appropriate for participants’ educational needs. PM Life also offers the option to pick modules over the next few years if the 2018 dates are not suitable. An EPMA certificate is provided to each successful participant who passes the end of week exams.
