Chromalloy Earns Third Japan Civil Aviation Bureau Certificate

Chromalloy, a leading independent supplier of technologically advanced repairs, coatings, and FAA-approved alternative parts for turbine airfoils and other critical engine components, has received its third Approved Organization Exposition certificate from the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB). Earlier this year, two other Chromalloy engine repair service centers in the U.S. – in Phoenix, Arizona, and Carson City, Nevada – received AOE authorization from the JCAB. The certificate was awarded to Chromalloy’s San Antonio, Texas, repair station following a rigorous audit by JCAB and determination of operational capabilities to provide repair services on various components in turbine engines powering Japanese commercial aircraft. The San Antonio certificate also was issued in accordance with the 2009 Japan Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreement (BASA) that authorizes Federal Aviation Administration Designated Engineering Representative approved repairs. Under the JCAB approval, the Chromalloy service centers can provide turbine engine component repairs for the country’s leading airlines, Japan Airlines (JAL) and All Nippon Airways (ANA).The San Antonio operation is a 292,000 square-foot repair center that provides services on a wide range of aircraft engines. The operation also holds repair approval certificates from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), Directorate General Civil Aviation (DGCA) Indonesia, Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) Thailand, and AMECO Beijing Contractor Authorization. Designated Engineering Representative or DER is a FAA delegation allowing individuals with authorization to approve certain repairs and alterations on behalf of the FAA, using submitted technical data. DER experts ensure the proper evaluation of technical data, certify compliance with FAA guidelines and regulations, and perform compliance tests and inspections.JCAB approval of the facilities allows Japanese airlines to use Chromalloy DER approved repairs as opposed to the company obtaining individual repair approvals from JCAB. BASA allows for reciprocal safety certification of aircraft and aviation products, including the DER-approved repairs Chromalloy provides on turbine engine components.
