Summit Aeronautics, which is based in Helena, Montana, USA, already provides hard metal machining for Boeing’s different models of aircraft. It supplied 747-8 failsafe bars, which allow the flaps to move on the wings; the edge frames of 787 that fit around the doors; and 767 main-landing-gear beams, which assist in landing gear rotation.Summit Aeronautics will continue to work on the existing programmes and other metal parts for 787 following the completion of the merger. It will be called Boeing Helena and form a part of Boeing Fabrication, part of Boeing’s commercial aeroplane segment. “I think you start with the team here and the capabilities of the workforce that’s here, with the former Summit team, and then you expand that to the community and the state and it just looked like a great investment, operating with a very professional and talented team to move forward with,” said Ross Bogue, vice-president of Boeing Fabrication.
