Battery materials process agreement

Umicore and clean technology company Nano One Materials have signed a non-exclusive joint development agreement (JDA) to integrate their battery metal processing technologies.

Plans are for Nano One’s patented M2CAM one-pot process technology to be used with Umicore’s proprietary process technology for the production of nickel, manganese and cobalt. This could help reduce the costs and environmental footprint of cathode active materials (CAM) production, the companies say.

“Our development agreement with Nano One allows us to study the feasibility of their technology with the potential and ambition to further decrease the carbon footprint and costs of CAM production,” said Yves Van Rompaey, senior vice president at Umicore.
