The 2019 William J Kroll Zirconium Medal was awarded to Garde for his development of zirconium alloys with regards to nuclear fuel fabrication, alloy development and hot-cell examinations.
Garde has a master of science in metallurgical engineering from Syracuse University and a PhD in materials science from the University of Florida.
