America Makes presents standardization roadmap

America Makes and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) have presented Version 2.0 of their Standardization Roadmap for Additive Manufacturing to Europe. The roadmap aims to develop industry-wide additive manufacturing (AM) standards and specifications.

‘America Makes is about promoting US manufacturing competitiveness wherever you are in the world,’ said America Makes executive director Rob Gorham. ‘We are pleased to be part of this international exchange with colleagues in the industry.’

Jim McCabe, ANSI senior director of standards facilitation described the roadmap to delegates at the Formnext show. The document identifies 93 ‘gaps’ where no published standard or specification currently exists to address a particular industry need. McCabe noted that many of these gaps also require additional pre-standardization research and development (R&D).
