The University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, has received CAN$8.2 million funding to develop 3D printing partnerships between academic institutions and industry.
The Additive Manufacturing Alliance will reportedly provide local businesses with access to the university's 3D printing experts and equipment. Plans are to support more than 90 businesses and commercialize around 30 manufacturing technologies.
Waterloo houses a metal additive manufacturing (AM) lab which it claims is the country’s most comprehensive academic research and development facility for metal AM.
‘[T]he Additive Manufacturing Alliance announced today will enable the scale up of Ontario's additive manufacturing ecosystem,’ said Mary Wells, dean of Waterloo’s engineering department.
