XG Sciences Inc, which makes graphene materials, has reported the commercial adoption of its products for use in engine oil.

According to the company, automotive firm HELLA has launched a new line of engine oil additives incorporating XG Sciences’ graphene nanoplatelets in East Asia.

HELLA may also extend the use of graphene nanoplatelets to other lubrication-related products. XG says. The oil has been formulated to reduce wear and friction in internal combustion engines, extending engine life and making a 50% reduction in engine wear and improved fuel economy.

Graphene nanoplatelets are particles consisting of multiple layers of graphene with energy storage, thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, barrier properties, lubricity and other characteristics.
