Grant for recycled powder production

Powder producer 6K has received a US$1.5 million grant from US local government to develop its materials recycling technology.

6K uses UniMelt microwave technology to recycle powder for additive manufacturing (AM) and in the production of batteries for electric vehicles, grid storage, and consumer electronics. 6K says that the UniMelt system can produce material in two to three seconds with no hazardous waste, a six times reduction in water usage, and a three times reduction in both power use and CO2 emissions.

The company recently opened a 33,000 ft2 pre-production facility in North Andover, Massachusetts, which it says will be one of the largest battery material production facilities in the United States.
