Sandvik and its part subsidiary Beamit Group say that they have succeeded in 3D printing parts made of super-duplex stainless steel that are almost fully dense (>99.9%) and crack-free, even before post processing.

The components are printed in Osprey 2507 metal powder that Sandvik says has improved corrosion resistance and durability, making them suitable for applications in the seawater exposed offshore energy sector and chemical processing.

‘We are set up to drive the implementation of AM across a number of industries where the impact of optimized, corrosion resistant components, as well as on-demand production of spare parts is potentially enormous,’ added Johan Wallin, product manager at Sandvik Additive Manufacturing.
