SINTX Technologies and chemical company Iwatani Corporation of America (ICA) have joined forces to develop ways to incorporate SINTX’s AP2 silicon nitride powder into polymer materials.

According to the companies, the materials would then create surfaces for IT devices, such as cases for cell phones and tablets, that can resist bacteria and viruses.

‘We are pleased to enter this joint development agreement with Iwatani, toward developing new products that leverage the intrinsic antipathogenic properties of silicon nitride,’ said Dr Sonny Bal., SINTX chairman.

Recent studies from the company suggest that its powder could inactivate the SARS-CoV-2 virus that is responsible for the global COVID-19 pandemic.
