Carpenter trials new wire coating

Carpenter Technology Corporation has developed of CarTech EcoClear wire coating for cold heading fabrication of the industrial fasteners used in aerospace, automotive, or consumer end-use applications. The coating is a nonmetallic lubricant applied as a thin coating to heading-grade wire and was developed to provide an option between precoat and copper coatings.  According to the company, the new coating is easy to apply and control, exhibits improved cold headability, and is easy to remove following fabrication. It is intended for less severe heading applications requiring up to two strikes. For suitable applications, CarTech EcoClear coating can provide a longer shelf life and protection against die wear compared to precoat and is more economical compared to copper coatings.
