Blending of metal powders

US-based Munson Machinery has launched a vee cone blender suitable for blending metal powders in a laboratory setting.

VB-.25-SSXHDI can reportedly achieve uniform blends of dry bulk solids. It also evacuates fully and cleans rapidly, Munson said.

It features two inclined cylinders mounted on pillow block bearings that can rotate end-over-end at 30 RPM, causing bulk material to fall, converge and divide with each rotation, achieving consistent blends in around 15 to 30 minutes, according to the company.

The specialized model can blend materials with bulk densities up to 1.6 g/cm3 in capacities up to 7.65 ℓ, and is equipped with an independently powered Intensifier bar that can break up soft agglomerates, heavy, dense powders and can improve the diffusion of materials. Also available is a dispersion bar that sprays liquid additions onto the moving materials, minimising cycle times required to achieve batch uniformity.

The unit is made of carbon steel with stainless steel material contact surfaces finished to industrial standards.
