AM software can adjust laser power in real time

EOS has developed new software for laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) metal 3D printing that it says can automatically adjust laser power in real time.

According to the company, the Smart Fusion technology works by using a high-resolution camera which overlooks the build chamber and monitors each layer’s meltpool emissions. This data is then fed back to the laser where it is adjusted.

EOS says that using its software can speed up 3D printing by two to five times and reduce the need for support structures during the additive manufacturing (AM) process.

Smart Fusion is part of the company’s Smart Monitoring package and will be available from June 2023.
