Wall Colmonoy invests in plant improvements

Wall Colmonoy has invested US$2.5 million to modernize its 52,000 ft2 alloy metals plant based in Los Lunas, New Mexico.

The company plans to upgrade plant infrastructure and environment and alloy furnace equipment.

For its R&D laboratory, it has acquired a wet/dry sieve vibrator, robotic paste dispenser, hardness tester, vacuum mixer, and a digital microscope that can capture high-resolution images up to 2000x. A new inductively coupled plasma (ICP) analyzer, carbon/sulfur analyzer, and mois-ture analyzer have also been installed, which Wall Colmonoy says can help improve assessment of raw materials before production. An air jet sieve which can characterize fine powder particles is now also available.

Wall Colmonoy has also focused on health and safety by reinforcing a melting deck to improve and secure structural integrity. A central vacuum system (CVS) has been installed to improve dust collection and new fork trucks, racking, lifts and hoists have been purchased.
