The LIGHT project will be managed by CADCSM software developers Delcam and also comprises Bloodhound SSC, HiETA, CRDM/3DSystems, EOS, Simpleware and Magna Parva.
They plan to begin an empirical set of trials, benchmarks and demonstrators, making it easier for the whole UK manufacturing supply chain of design and manufacture to adopt the technology. Some initial ideas include the integration of a computational CADCAM tool into the AM process; investigating lattice structures; and creating parts that can withstand extreme conditions, such as temperatures up to 500°C.
The project is receiving £495,000 of support from the UK’s innovation agency, the Technology Strategy Board.
