UK car manufacturing May decrease

British car production in May 2019 fell by 15.5%, according the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). The organization says that this is the twelfth month in a row that there has been a decrease in production.

Some 21,239 fewer units were manufactured, with demand both at home and abroad falling by double-digits. Manufacturing for domestic buyers fell by 25.9%, while overseas orders were down 12.6%, the SMMT says.

'12 consecutive months of decline for UK car manufacturing is a serious concern and underlines yet again the importance of securing a Brexit deal quickly,’ said Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive.
