UK car production fell in September with output down 5%, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

This is its worst performance for September in 25 years, according to figures published by the Society. Factories turned out 114,732 cars, a decline of around 6,000 units on the same month in 2019, while exports declined -9.7% in September to 87,533 units – around 9,500 fewer vehicles year-on-year. Production for the UK, however, climbed 14.5%, equivalent to a rise of 3,440 vehicles, a result of new model introductions that were in run out in the same month last year, the SMMT said.

The electric vehicle (EV) market however grew 37.0% year-on-year compared to September 2019, with the overwhelming majority (76.6%) exported, many of these into the EU.
