Professor Weißgärber holds the professorship in powder metallurgy at Technische Universität Dresden and received the award due to his significant contribution to the development of the industry.
His research focuses on metallic lightweight materials, composite materials, high temperature materials, functional materials and materials for the energy sector. A main topic of his work is the development of highly thermally conductive and expansion-matched composites for applications in electronics. Other research specialties include the development of aluminum sintering, creating highly porous materials for chemical processes and energy storage and developing soft magnetic materials and complex concentrated alloys. Professor Weißgärber is also active in the field of additive manufacturing (AM), the EPMA said.
