Tekna consolidates European AM production

Materials specialist Tekna has decided to consolidate all its additive manufacturing (AM) powder production in Europe into a new facility based in eastern France.

Tekna has reportedly signed a nine-year lease agreement on the facility based in the commune of Pont-de-Veyle. The 8 000 m2 building is designed to hold up to 1,500 tons of powder manufacturing capacity and is currently planned for the production of nickel, aluminium and titanium powders for AM.

According to Tekna, the facility allows for expansion of production capacity and for integrating printed electronics and energy storage activities at a later stage. It is part of Tekna's 10-year business plan to accelerate growth in all three of its powder business segments.

“This facility will be the centerpiece of a supply chain that is 100% European-based, ranging from feedstock procurement to manufacturing of advanced powders, and delivery to point-of-use, with fully traceable, closed-loop material recycling,” said Tekna CEO Luc Dionne. “Tekna’s ambition to enable a green economy through the efficient use of resources and the elimination of waste is
taking shape.”

Tekna says that it can now grow production capacity by approximately 2 500 tons of powder annually.
