Sandvik acquires tap manufacturer

Sandvik has completed its acquisition of US based company Balax, a supplier of carbide and HSS cut taps and roll forming taps for general engineering and automotive.

Balax, based in North Lake, USA, has 66 employees. In 2021 the company had revenues of US$10 million.

The company will form part of Sandvik’s Walter division in its Manufacturing and Machining Solutions business area.

“The acquisition of Balax is the second acquisition by GWS during Sandvik’s ownership and is well aligned with the shift to growth strategy,” said Stefan Widing, CEO and President of Sandvik. “Balax will strengthen our tap offering on the North American market.”
