The proposed plant in Bharuch could be supplied with raw atomised powder from Rio Tinto’s metal powder plant in Tracy, Canada.
In India, Rio Tinto’s existing operations includes a diamond mine at Bunder in Madhya Pradesh, which is at an advanced stage of development. Commercial production is planned to commence around 2016.
Rio Tinto has a joint venture with state-owned Orissa Mining Corporation and NMDC for development of iron ore leases in Keonjhar and Sundergarh in Odisha to meet demand from upcoming steel projects in the state.
