3D printing specialist Renishaw plc and center for surgical design and research PDR have signed a new research collaboration to improve the precision of surgical procedures.
The companies aim to develop new design methods that will bring better levels of precision to complex surgical procedures. They will make use of Renishaw's experience in technologies such as 3D printing in metal and PDR's experience in research and design of the devices.
‘The close relationship PDR has with industry and the NHS will ensure new design, and engineering-led methods will be developed to meet the needs of the rapidly evolving healthcare sector,’ said Dr Dominic Eggbeer, PDR's head of surgical and prosthetic design.
Renishaw supplies AM patient specific implants (PSIs), known as LaserImplants, direct to EU-based hospitals. Renishaw would like to further AM's usage whilst maintaining high levels of performance in service.
