Project to improve 3D printing reproducibility

America Makes has announced a US$250,000 call for projects focused on improving consistency and reproducibility in metal laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) 3D printing.

Plans are to improve test methods, measurement tools and data, physics-based models, and the technical basis for standards in order to better characterize and improve feedstock materials, process variables, system performance, mechanical properties, part quality, and system integration. America Makes also wants to develop new AM standards with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

“We look forward to demonstrating the potential to increase US manufacturing competitiveness, as well as the development and deployment of reproducible and reliable AM technologies to meet defense and commercial needs,” said Brandon Ribic, technology director, America Makes.
