The awards will be presented on Tuesday, 12th October during the PM2010 World Congress & Exhibition to be held in Florence, Italy. All entries, together with the winners, will be prominently displayed as part of a PM Showcase at the PM 2010 Exhibition.
“Over the years these awards have done much to promote and stimulate interest in PM technology,” said Jonathan Wroe, executive director of the EPMA.
The awards are for major achievements in successful commercialisation or innovation, of a product, material, equipment or process. The three categories are:
- components, which covers all types of PM products, structural parts, bearings, hardmetals, wear, and corrosion resistant parts, PM semi-products, metal injection moulded parts etc;
- materials, covering powder based materials, evaluated on the basis of their properties;
- and production equipment, including presses, furnaces and tooling.
The awards are open to ALL EPMA members who can register online at the EPMA website. The deadline for submissions is 7th May 2010.
The EPMA has also announced the launch of its biennial Thesis Competition for 2010, in diploma (Masters) and doctorate (PhD) levels.
The aim of the competition is to develop interest in and promote powder metallurgy among young scientists at European academic establishments, and to encourage research at under-graduate and post-graduate levels.
This year, as in the past, the prizes are sponsored by Höganäs AB of Sweden. The the diploma/masters winner will receive a cheque for €750, while the doctorate/PhD winner will receive €1000. Many past winning papers have also been published in Metal Powder Report magazine.
Prizes will be awarded at a special awards luncheon at the PM2010 World Congress & Exhibition.
The deadline for submission is Friday, 14th May 2010.
