Plansee acquires Mi-Tech

Plansee has agreed to acquire US company Mi-Tech Tungsten Metals, based in Indianapolis, USA.

Funded in 1978, Mi-Tech is a supplier of tungsten products for industries such as power, engineering and aerospace. It employs almost 100 people.

"[Mi-Tech’s] tungsten products offer a unique combination of density, mechanical strength and shielding effectiveness," said Dr Wolfgang Köck, Plansee board member.

Plansee bought the company through its US subsidiary Global Tungsten & Powders (GTP), which specializes in tungsten powder production.

"Mi-Tech will benefit from the fact that GTP, as a leading western supplier, guarantees security of supply for tungsten powders," said Karlheinz Wex, Plansee CEO. A large part of the tungsten is already obtained today through recycling, the company said.
