Mashl was recognised for his technical contributions in the fields of powder metallurgy processing and hot isostatic pressing technology and for technical leadership within the hot isostatic pressing industry.

Mashl joined the University in 2011 and is developing an applied research programme in particulate materials and powder metallurgy. He holds BS, MS and PhD degrees in metallurgical engineering from the University and has spent most of his career in industry, most recently as global director of research and development for Bodycote. He was also a National Research Council Fellow at the Naval Research Laboratory and a postdoctoral fellow at the US Department of Energy’s Ames Laboratory, in Ames, Iowa.

Mashl also chairs the International HIP Committee and has served as president of the Advanced Particulate Materials Association and director of the North American Isostatic Pressing Association.
