New AM laboratory specializes in radio frequency

UK electronics specialist CAES has opened a new additive manufacturing (AM) facility in Exeter, New Hampshire.

This follows the company’s partnership with SWISSto12, a provider of 3D printed technology for radio frequency applications. Plans are for the two organizations to develop electronics for space systems in the defense industry.

“3D printing has been a game changer in many manufacturing disciplines and we are excited in what this technology will do for RF components,” said Mike Kahn, president and CEO, CAES. “This flight proven technology will allow us to rapidly go from design to manufacturing with much more complex components that were possible using traditional manufacturing.”

The new facility features a laser powder bed fusion machine, process support equipment, a metal finishing and plating line, and RF testing capability.
